First time parenting jitters? Yup! Welcome to my world… I am beyond excited to embark on the journey of motherhood but simultaneously terrified.
Being pregnant means there are so many things to think about. And with google at our fingertips, there is so much information out there for the new mother-to-be.
I decided to ask my friends for their best Parenting advice for new parents and decided to compile a list of what they had to say below! In no particular order…
1. “Everyone has their own way of parenting, you just have to do what’s best for you”
This advice was given to my husband and I by our friends. My husband likes to remind me if this whenever I start to panic or ask him “What do we do if…”
2. “Buy clothes in all different sizes – not just Newborn”
Ok, so maybe you aren’t like me and prepping your baby’s wardrobe from the get go. But, this advice was shared by several Mamas out there. First of all you have no idea how big your baby will be when they fly out of your coochie, nor do you have any clue about how fast your baby will grow. I took this advice and have been buying clothes from Newborn to… well 9 months (I know… I know…. but I am a little crazy when it comes to shopping!) I have heard so many stories of babies having so many newborn clothes that they never get to wear them as they grow so fast. So get a collection in a variety of sizes.
3. “Burn the baby books and follow your instincts”
I can’t vouch for this from experience yet but I can from Logic. Our ancestors didn’t have a parenting-self-help section in the book store nor did they have google! And yet, here we are doing fabulous things in life. So this has to be true!
4. “You’re the best Mama for your baby”
I for sure will need to chant this as a mantra. As someone who doesn’t have a Mother, I am constantly I am afraid about becoming one. Your baby is part you and you, part your baby. You have the capabilities within you of giving your child every little thing it needs.
5. “Remember to take time for yourself”
This piece of advice for the new Mother sounds hard. I’m already thinking I am never going to want to put this baby down or let it out of my sight. But I know there are going to be moments when I will have to take a little time out for my career or even just to go and get my nails done in attempt to feel human again. And I know I will definitely need some nap time!
6. “Prep food in advance to make sure you eat”
This was another piece of advice shared by many of you amazing Mothers out there. I told my husband he was going to have to cook and panic spread all over his face! He said we can just order in if we need to. But I know I won’t want to do that every day… I’m going to take on this advice and make some meals I can store in the freezer
(I’ll share some recipes soon). Many of you gorgeous Moms suggested freezing lasagna trays- yum!
A huge thank you to all you amazing Mama’s out there who took the time to share your advice!
I’ll keep updating this post so feel free to reach out if any of you have more. Be sure to check out my must have items for Mama here and for baby here.
