It’s all about the bag (purse America). Repeat after me, your bag/purse is not an afterthought. Nope, you do not spend an hour or two getting all dolled up for a night on the town to grab the bag you take everywhere with you right before you leave the house. Unless it is a classic Chanel matching your outfits color palette…
If you are trying to nail your look or appear to be more ‘put’ together then match your bag to your outfit. It is that simple.
So do you match your bag to your clothes or shoes?
Either or. It does not matter.
If you are wearing jeans, a white shirt and nude heels what should the bag match?
The shirt or shoes. Denim bags just aren’t a thing in 2020. Gross. Just match your bag with your outfit.
If you are wearing all black and colored shoes?
A black bag or a bag the same color as your shoes will go perfectly, make sense? See below.
When is there an exception to this rule?
If you are a fashionista who is trying to make a statement and the bag is the statement, then color clash is acceptable. Think orange satin boiler suit with orange Louboutins and then a fuchsia pink or khaki green Gucci bag. That works. If you do this, you’re being very brave and cool. Well done.
Alternatively, if you want to keep it simple, or you don’t like owning a lot of ‘stuff’ then here is what you should own.
A black bag and a black pair of shoes (same material).
A tan brown bag and a tan brown pair of shoes (same material).
Hopefully this makes sense and helps! Don’t forget to subscribe to THE BIL’s newsletter and feel free to comment and tag me on instagram with your Closet Dolly looks! And remember, it’s all about the bag, so match your bag with what you are wearing.
White Bag is Kate Spade and the Red Clutch is Sophia Webster!
